Detour Logo

I have been behind a camera for over 30 years, traveled the world and experienced many incredible places. Most of these travels have been on assignment or leading a photography tour. I have always had a passion for sharing my talents and experiences with others. As time moves on, I find myself wanting to venture into a medium I have always wanted to explore, video. I spent the last few years exploring the direction I wanted to take on my new quest. Travel is the one area I know well and have lots of experience. Unfortunately, travel is also the most crowded field of most video creators. I decided I needed a unique angle on travel if I'm going to go in this direction. There are many excellent  travel creators, but what I found, most travel videos end up being about the person and not the location, so it seems.

I decided I wanted to focus on the place, or the history, or the uniqueness, the beauty, the lesser known lesser traveled places. Therefore, Detour seemed like the best name to give this project.

Detour will be a series of travel videos with narration, native sounds, beautiful visuals and of course music. The videos will have a website associated with it to provide directions on how to get there and need to know information. The two videos below are test videos with music and beautiful views of many of the locations that will be featured when the project launches.

As Detour continues to develop more information will be coming sometime in the summer of 2025. If you would like to be informed please let me know by clicking on the contact button above with a quick note, Add me to your contact list for Detour.

American Landscapes was the initial test on this new project. I had already traveled extensively creating video with no real idea how it would be used. It was also a test for my talents to shoot and edit video. Although this video isn't perfect, by any stretch, but it did open the doors to learning.

East to West was the second test for my project. This was before the name Detour was created. My initial idea was to create a series of videos celebrating the 100th anniversary of the US Highway System coming up in 2026. This was going to be a daunting task and my concern was who my audience might be. It seems few people are interested in history, especially history of a road system. It took me a couple years to finally scrap that idea and move forward but still hold on to some of the same concepts. What I do know, Americans love to drive their cars and they love to get away when time allows. The next step is in process...

Looking for Sponsors

Creating a project of this size is expensive. I have several ideas in the works to make this project a success. I will have hats and hoodies made with the Detour logo for different levels of sponsorship. Every sponsor will have their name at the end of each video they helped make a reality.

I am also looking at one of many funding websites for creatives. Hopefully I can get companies and local vendors in the locations featured in each video for sponsorships.

If you would like to sponsor this project please reach out to me via email. If you have any ideas you would like to share, I'm all ears.

Thanks,

William
